Carson Block

Some songs Carson Block writes are better served naked on a simple acoustic platter. Carson has been writing and performing in Fort Collins' own Cool Hand Juke for 16+ years, bringing vocal energy to CHJ's thunderous, funky and soulful groove. He also loves other musical styles and composes in the tradition of his inspirations Lyle Lovett, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Los Lobos, Sturgill Simpson, Mavis Staples, Steve Earle, and his 93-year-old mum Patsy Block, who has the best voice in the world. Carson's songs center on the joyful and challenging ironies of life, with lots of humor and at least one cuss word (from the stage) per set. By the way, Carson truly believes there are no bad songs -- just bad versions. Every gig he takes out a single maligned, hackneyed tune (think: "Freebird") and digs in to try to find a new heart and soul for the song. Is the "bad" song redeemed? The audience votes and makes the call!
