Slap Happy

Denver punk trio Slap Happy has taken those halcyon vibes of 90’s pop-punk and distilled, warped, and mutated them for the present. On their 2021 debut, Prophylactic Shock, the group matures from their earlier EP’s and Singles into a tight, driving wall of sound, punctuated by vocalist and guitarist Luke Slouka’s growls, drummer Mack Millar’s precision hits, and bassist Andrew Larson’s distorted, hammering bass lines. Tracks such as “Kingsley Manor” invoke nostalgic themes of leaving home, mixed with doo-wop style vocals and driving power chords. “Cruisin” showcases the band’s appreciation and command of surfy, jamming, 60’s garage tinted workouts, music to lose yourself in.
Slap Happy offers up a taste of the good ol’days with a measure of modern sophistication and influence. With a tendency to perform raucous live sets, and a dedication to shoring up the local scene, they are in the perfect place to continue to evolve their sound while building up a dedicated following in the Mile High City.
