To Be Astronauts

Every member of To Be Astronauts is a transplant to the state, but the comment we seem to get most consistenly about our music is it sounds "distinctly Colorado." The connective tissue that holds this alt-indie-heavy-classic punk rock band together so well is our appreciation for the state, so it makes sense that would come across in our music. Influenced by bands like Nirvana, Fugazi, and Black Sabbath, To Be Astronauts started as a cover band paying homage to those groups, and slowly morphed into mature songwriters crafting loud, bouncy, catchy music. We've played with bands from all over the Mile High, from Dead Pay Rent to Flahoola, Post Paradise to the Trujillo Company, and we're proud to help represent the scene. Most recently, we were featured on Indie 102.3's Local 303 for April 2020, CPR's Dearly Departed 2018: Colorado Remembers Showcase, covering The Fall's 'Totally Wired," and many appearances on 93.3's Locals Only. We made a self-titled EP (off of which our song "Cosmic Bitch" was featured in Britain's Classic Rock Magazine!) in 2015, and in 2017, recorded our first full length album, indifferentstates. The album reflects the heightened state of tension in the country—towards which the band processed its feelings by touring the Pacific Northwest and subsequently stumbling on an album title—and deals with a myriad of different topics, including (but not limited to): ghosts of the Stanley Hotel, bubble-gods, anti-Trump sentiments, the Rocky Horror Picture Show, refusing normalcy, love, and East Colfax Avenue. In 2019, and 2020 we released two singles recorded at Evergroove Studios "Thoughts & Prayers" and "Delirium" were successful tracks and were well received. Lastly, we recorded a live acoustic EP at Globe Hall, titled "Cut the Cord" which was released in the fall of 2021. The record features the reimagining of previously released songs and introduced the new single "Scream All You Want."Â
