Pulchra

Originally conceived as a series of demos by bassist/producer Max Jonas Knaver (We Are William, Rise as Legends, Voidlung, Goat Hill Massacre), Pulchra is a Colorado Doom Metal project that takes the style to sonic extremes as a reflection of human grief. Fusing enveloping walls of dissonant strings and ambient noise effects with downtempo drum grooves and hooky guitar rhythms, the Pulchra sound was born from the anger, melancholy, and confusion of loss, specifically premature death during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Occupying the no man's land between extreme metal, sludge, traditional doom, and post-rock, Pulchra is set to make waves as it matures into an energetic and emotive live act, using modern technology to bring a full and powerful sound to a two-piece format. Together with Drummer Mack Barrow (Ritual Aesthetic, Ethesian), Max uses digitally controlled effects, lights, and bass loops to combine the rawness and synergy of a small ensemble with a larger-than-life presentation that elevates the live experience to reflect the dark melodrama of Pulchra's music.
