John Daniel Berning

My name's John Daniel Berning, I'm a folk/singer-songwriter living in Breckenridge, Colorado. Recently released debut album Time to Mend is NOW STREAMING on all services!

I'm 32 years old and a former high school teacher from the Midwest. After COVID changed the world, I made some major life changes and moved out to Breckenridge, CO. In the summer of 2021 I began attending some open mic nights in Breck and quickly grew up into the local music scene here. I started being offered gigs around town in fall of 2021, and it has quickly grown into a full time passion project working around my full-time "real" job. I play 2-3x per weekend through the winter seasons, and 3-4-5 times per week through summer seasons (while taking the mud season breaks to travel and write). Just this summer I played bars, breweries, wineries, and special events, not only around Summit County but also in Georgetown, Beuna Vista, and Denver.

My style is singer-songwriter and folk, and some of my songs have bigger sounds and can be easily converted into 5 or 6 piece folk rock songs. While most of my shows are solo, very stripped down and intimate, I can also put together extremely talented full-band lineups for bigger shows.

I've recorded a few of my original songs with Andrew Berlin in Ft. Collins (produced multiple Gregory Alan Isakov records), one of which just hit 10,000 streams on Spotify! Just back in September of this year, I recorded my debut album, 10-song Time to Mend, at Evergroove Studio in Evergreen. "Mountain Rainbow" quickly got picked up on some playlists and was recently featured on Summit County's Krystal 93's local spotlight segment, "Music at the Summit."

I am inspired by a wide range of artists including The Beatles, Tom Petty, the Avett Brothers, Jack Johnson, Tyler Childers, Zach Bryan, Gregory Alan Isakov, Caamp, the Lumineers, etc.
