Little Wilderness
Little Wilderness is a dynamic, homegrown rock band that draws inspiration from the rugged landscape of Southwest Colorado, blending the raw energy of rock 'n roll with the unique environmental influences of the Four Corners region. Formed in 2011, the band has become a key player in Durango's music scene, with a lineup that includes Paul Henderson (guitar/singer), Dan Szabo (lead guitar), Juan Lopez (bass), and David Sachs (drums).
Their debut album, Big Tent (2019), released on Flak Records out of Austin, Texas, encapsulates their diverse sound. The album's opening track, “Crazy World,” is a high-octane composition that sets the tone with its fiery guitar riffs and driving rhythm. Other songs, like “Narrow Gauge,” incorporate elements of country and Americana, while tracks like “Laid Low” and “Starting New” showcase their indie rock sensibilities. The band’s style evokes the spirit of an era when garage bands ruled the airwaves, characterized by loud amps and hard-hitting drums.
In addition to their album release, Little Wilderness has kept busy with performances, including a showcase at SXSW 2023, SXSW 2024, an opening gig for Dragondeer, a fellow standout band from Denver, and a variety of local music festivals in and around their hometown. Through it all, the band remains deeply connected to their roots and committed to the authenticity of their craft. With their blend of gritty rock 'n roll and Southwestern flavor, Little Wilderness proves that the genre is alive and well, and they’re here to keep it that way.
