Ingrid Avison
Ingrid Avison is a Colorado based singer-songwriter who believes in music and songwriting as spell-casting. A superb vocalist, Ingrid brings a subtle tremble in her voice that is pure and grounded while lifting into a full throated wail almost effortlessly. Ingrid lives in a world of secrets; as a desert wanderer she discovers them, as a therapist she holds them, and as a writer she confesses them, letting you in on the raw, intimate details of what it means to be truly alive today. Her songs blend catchy melodies, insightful and provocative lyrics and biting social commentary.
“Ingrid Avison’s entry into the folk-pop scene signals an exciting new voice and vision, drawing in audiences with her mix of compelling storytelling and divine energy in every note.” - House of Solo
It’s telling that Ingrid’s debut recording is a sophisticated mélange of Americana and at times otherworldly cinematic soundscapes that breath life into her compelling stories of desert sojourns, lost love, death and time traveling into other dimensions.
Come with me where the land is red/Sink into the canyons/When the winds are strong and the rage sets in/That’s where I’ll be wailing.
Ingrid is no stranger to heartache and she gives voice to those feelings. In a recent interview Ingrid shares, “Having my dad suddenly die when I was a kid has shaped so much of who I am, and it’s not possible for me to leave it out of my songwriting. It’s like saying you’re gonna build a car without an engine. You’re gonna get nowhere fast…so whether it’s a break up song or a dead dad song, grief is going to show up. But on the flip side, the only way that I survived that experience as a kid was to eventually laugh at the absurdity of life and reclaim my joy as a griever and as a woman finding her place in the world. Those elements are like the wheels of my car.”
So if you’re run down and ragged/Feeling so alone/Come here and rest your head/I’ll hold you till the tears are gone.
Ingrid’s creative journey coalesced quickly as she has made room in her life for her new found passion. Living in a quiet cabin home in the mountains with her dog, Olive, and cultivating a steadfast dedication to the songwriting muse has been essential. After writing her first songs in 2022, she is currently working on her debut EP, produced by her neighbor, Steve Szymanski, a co-founder of Planet Bluegrass, who says it felt meant to be. “I actually first met Ingrid walking her dog down our road and invited her over to my studio to record some of her new songs.” A musical bond quickly ensued and now are underway in releasing Ingrid’s debut EP.
Now I’m ready to step into the expanse/Holding steady through the borderlands/My body is a portal to the past/My ancestors are time traveling/Everything lasts forever/This I understand.
Ingrid’s song, “Time Traveling Cowboy”, became a catalyst for the entire project, as it was the first song to be recorded as a demo track. The song is a personal favorite, delving into a kind of hero’s journey and speaking to the essence of personal transformation and the paradox of existence.
Listening to the whispers of the land/Deliver me to another dimension/Blue eyed coals all they destroy/Is it real is it the void?/Ashes, ashes paradoxically/What kills me sets me free.
As a solo artist, Ingrid has performed at several venues along the front range of Colorado. In the spring of 2023, she formed the Ingrid Avison Band and their debut performance drew nearly 100 people to the historic Trident Bookstore in Boulder, CO. Since then she drew 90+ people to an event she organized with Roots Music Project in Boulder called AMPlify: Celebrating Women in the Arts and has played Chautauqua Community House. She is set to play Swallow Hill in December 2024.

In her other career, Ingrid dedicates her time as a grief and trauma therapist, exploring ways to help clients move through the ups and downs of life and loss. For Ingrid, songwriting and performing provide yet another vehicle for her to deepen into connection and healing with herself, others and the cosmos.
