ego n friends

Ego n friends is a multidimensional indie pop artist based in Denver, Colorado. Raised in San Jose, California by Indian immigrant parents, he picked up the guitar as a pre-teen and hasn’t put it down since. Growing up in a community heavily populated by other first generation Asian Americans, his musical aspirations were at odds with the rigorous academic culture around him. But his talent and drive were undeniable, and by the time he was in high school, there was no question that he had a future in music. While studying audio engineering in college, ego n friends was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder that he battled on and off for three years. He spent over a month in India undergoing treatment, using the recovery time to further hone his mixing and mastering chops.

In late 2020, ego n friends came to Denver to shoot a music video, and never left. Drawn to the city’s burgeoning music scene, he quickly became part of the community by building genuine connections with other artists, while also advancing the city’s flourishing culture of collaboration. The “n friends” in his name is a nod to his vast network of collaborators, many of whom he considers close friends. Within two years of relocating to Denver, ego n friends released a series of singles and a 6-track EP featuring a diverse group of artists from Colorado and beyond. Through this rollout, ego n friends had the opportunity to experiment with a range of genres before ultimately finding his niche in nostalgia-provoking indie pop and alternative hip-hop. He has cultivated an atmospheric yet organic sound influenced by artists like Dominic Fike, Joji, Col3trane, and Frank Ocean. As a skilled producer and audio engineer, ego n friends produces, mixes, and masters all of his own music, while also providing these services to other musicians through his studio, Friendly Collective. His cinematic production style, showcased on his self-produced debut album are u alone?, is characterized by unexpected samples, a dynamic use of sonic space, and a harmonious blend of acoustic and electronic sounds.

A charismatic and versatile performer, ego n friends has played venues all around Colorado, including Denver’s iconic Meow Wolf. He’s opened for national artists like Talib Kweli and Abhi The Nomad, drawing praise from major local media outlets Fox News and Westword. Equally at home strumming guitar at an intimate Sofar Sounds show as he is crowd surfing at a high-octane EDM concert, ego n friends expertly matches the vibe and energy of his audiences. Anyone who comes to a performance, streams his music, or stops by the studio inevitably becomes part of the ego n friends movement– not as a fan, but as a friend.
