Mag Esai

Mag Esai (formerly known as Revopsyk) is an artist, musician, producer, and professional DJ making revolutionary indigenous psychedelic music. Drawing on influences like sones, huapangos, boleros, soul, trip-hop, dub, and the rhythms of the danza, Mag Esai’s sound bridges traditional Mexican roots with innovative experimental styles. By blending indigenous instruments with contemporary production techniques, he creates a distinctive and transformative musical experience.

Born on the border of El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juarez, Mag Esai was raised on both sides of the border during the height of the Juarez drug war. His music aims to bring Mexican sound back to its roots, moving away from German polkas that glorified the destruction of our people and instead honoring indigenous traditions. As a danzante, Mag Esai’s life in the danza community and his practice of playing the huehuetl in his kalpulli deeply inform his sound and artistic vision.

Mag Esai’s work is a reflection of his personal journey, dedicated to reconnecting future generations to their ancestors through powerful, rooted soundscapes that honor and preserve cultural heritage.
