Denver’s Indie Slackers
Hailing from southern California, Becky Otárola (née Hostetler) created Bellhoss in 2017 after relocating to Denver, Colorado. She began as a solo artist and grew to collaborate with other people, bands, producers, and more. Aligned with projects like Snail Mail, the Beths, and Soccer Mommy, Bellhoss sits in a purgatory between indie and DIY punk, writing songs for herself and anyone keeping secrets. Bellhoss has shared the stage with the likes of Black Belt Eagle Scout, Ratboys, Post Animal, Girlpool, Stef Chura, Molly Burch, Esmé Patterson, Kiltro, Strange Ranger, Adam Faucett, Angelo de Augustine, and Many Rooms. Bellhoss has also played in Colorado and New Mexico music festivals, including several years of the Underground Music Showcase and the Westword Music Showcase in Denver and the Honky Tonk Hodge Podge in Cold Beer, NM. In February, Bellhoss will play a show with compatriots the Milk Blossoms and Denver legends Dressy Bessy.
Throughout the chaos COVID-19 created in 2020, Otárola collaborated on a short film with Shelby Rahe to songs written throughout the pandemic, called Hiding, released in July 2021, which went on to win Best Music Video at Santorini Film Festival in 2023. Additionally, Bellhoss worked with producer Joe Reinhart, owner of Headroom Studios and guitarist for Hop Along, on the EP "A Rose, a Thorn," which was released on Valentine's Day 2024.
