This House Has Lions

This House Has Lions is a band that defies the boundaries of genre, seamlessly blending the raw energy of classic punk rock with the sophistication and spontaneity of modern jazz. The group was born from a shared passion for both worlds by bassist Jason Malmberg and guitarist Matt Fuller, who met while performing as jazz musicians. Both Jason and Matt grew up deeply entrenched in the skate punk culture of the late 80s and early 90s, and their love for punk rock naturally intertwined with their passion for jazz, leading them to explore a fusion of these two influential genres.

When the COVID-19 pandemic halted the live music scene, Jason seized the moment to explore this fusion. He began arranging iconic punk rock tunes from his youth, reimagining them within the framework of modern jazz. With the addition of drummer Braxton Kahn (BK), the trio was complete, and their unique sound began to take shape.

In the summer of 2022, This House Has Lions released their self-titled debut LP, introducing audiences to their innovative blend of genres. The album received praise for its inventive arrangements and the way it honored the spirit of punk while embracing the complexity of jazz.

Now, This House Has Lions is working on their second album, which promises to push their creative boundaries even further. This new project features more original arrangements and instrumentals, showcasing the band’s evolving sound and commitment to musical exploration.
